Kopparhusen Norrköping- Heating combined with Connect
Kopparhusen is a new landmark in the industrial landscape of Norrköping. The neighbourhood will contribute to the densification of Norrköping and help to tie the city together with the university, the Visualization Centre and Norrköping Science Park. The clients are Hyresbostäder and Klövern, which are jointly developing a new quarter comprising student accommodation, rental apartments and offices. SEFAB is the main contractor on the project, which has a total construction area of 17,000 square metres spread across three buildings.
The project, which spanned two seasons, imposed strict requirements on heating equipment since it had to meet tight drying deadlines. El-Björn was brought in at an early stage of the project and by combining our TFUC800 district heating substations with TF15, TF30HV, and TF50HWI drying fans we were able to meet the strict project criteria. District heating was chosen because it was the greenest energy solution available. Mobile district heating substations were connected to the district heating supply and distributed heat through a system of hoses that supplied the entire project with hot water.
A number of hot water heating fans were installed on each floor to circulate thermostatically controlled air and ensure the right climate on each floor. Filters in the heating fans also helped to improve the working environment throughout the construction process.
One additional requirement was that the heating could be controlled and managed, which El-Björn was able to do using its El-Björn Connect service. SEFAB’s own equipment hire company, Evakurent, quickly realized the benefits of being able to remotely monitor the equipment and adjust and service the system before problems arose. El-Björn and Evakurent worked together on specifying the project and came up with a complete solution which was presented to SEFAB. SEFAB immediately understood the value of being able to safeguard the process and monitor humidity and temperature in real time. This would allow them to check whether the specified requirements were being met and whether more energy than necessary was being used for drying. The ability to extract and report actual values throughout the drying process was also a big advantage when later reviewing the project. Because of the scale of the project, installation was subcontracted to Heatab and its service technicians. Heatab was able to monitor the project and use alarm functions to send out alerts if there were problems, and so ensure reliable operation throughout the project. The El-Björn Connect service made it possible to link up and monitor the drying system, which in turn made it easier to meet drying deadlines and minimize the number of service visits by Heatab. Niklas Holmer, Site Manager for SEFAB, is very satisfied with the operation of the district heating substation and drying fans, and with El-Björn Connect, which allowed the units to be connected and controlled. Collaboration between SEFAB and El-Björn worked very smoothly, and together we came up with the ideal solution for this particular project. We had a clear picture of the situation at all times, everything was prepared in advance and all the equipment arrived on site when the installers needed it.
