Telakkaranta in Helsinki- TFUC district heating substation
A large-scale construction and renovation project requires specialist systems at a number of different points, one of which is the heating of the construction site. At the Telakkaranta construction site in Helsinki, traditional mobile electric and oil heating solutions were rejected as options at a relatively early point in the design phase. Instead, the decision was made to use district heating and district cooling pipework already in place and ready to use on the plot.
According to Site Manager Oskari Manninen from Skanska, the solution planned and supplied in collaboration between El-Björn and Skanska Konevuokraus has proven to work well on all fronts.
Additional bonuses of district heating include its eco-friendly nature and energy efficiency, as well as remote monitoring of the system, which is operational 24/7 and issues an immediate alert if any disruptions or abnormalities are observed. The cheaper kWh price of district heating also offers clear savings.
According to Area Manager Michael Thors of El-Björn, Telakkaranta is an example of the kind of benefits district heating offers on construction sites when combined with smart savings and alarm technology.
With the help of EB Connect savings can be made thanks to a remote connection, ensuring high efficiency and district heating use that is as efficient as possible.
