Helsinki Motor Boat Club- Installation of Alfa II
Helsingin Moottorivenekerho (HMVK), with its home harbour located in the heart of Helsinki, was established in 1948 and is now one of the largest boat clubs in Finland.
HMVK’s home harbour features berths for around 300 boats belonging to members, and 30 guest berths. Guests in the harbour have access not only to power poles located on the quays, but also to water points and a number of other guest harbour services, such as recently renovated sanitary facilities, laundry facilities and night guards. Furthermore, all the services and restaurants of the city centre are within walking distance.
HMVK’s quays had not been renovated since they were built, and were in major need of an overhaul, so when the City of Helsinki made the decision to overhaul the quays, Harbour Master Lassi Vuorela breathed a sigh of relief. The quays were renovated in two phases.
The second phase involved work on the likes of the guest berths, with Suomen Veistyö Oy taking on the role of main contractor in the renewal of the quays, whilst Renta Oy served as the electrical contractor for the project. The Alfa II power pole, produced by El-Björn Oy, was selected as the power pole to be used on the quays, having been designed based on feedback from customers and installers, as well as being approved by electrical product safety testing body Semko. Supervisor Alessandro Marrara from Renta also commended how easy the power points were to install.
